Safety Measures
Effective Date: September 08, 2026
At UniBites Delivery, the safety and well‑being of our students, vendors, and drivers is our top priority. We have implemented comprehensive safety measures across our platform to ensure a secure and reliable experience for everyone. This page outlines the steps we take to protect your health, data, and transactions.
1. Food Safety and Quality
We are committed to ensuring that every meal you order meets the highest standards of food safety and quality.
- Vendor Verification: All vendors must provide a valid business permit and pass a food safety inspection before they are approved to operate on our platform.
- Regular Inspections: We conduct periodic on‑site inspections of vendor kitchens to ensure compliance with hygiene and food handling standards.
- Temperature Control: Vendors are required to maintain proper temperature controls for perishable items during storage and preparation.
- Fresh Ingredients: We encourage vendors to source fresh, high‑quality ingredients and to clearly label allergens and nutritional information.
- Customer Feedback: We monitor reviews and ratings for food quality and safety concerns, and we take immediate action on any reported issues.
Tip: If you ever receive food that appears spoiled or unsafe, please contact us immediately through the order page.
2. Delivery Safety
We take the safety of every delivery seriously. Our drivers are trained and equipped to ensure your food arrives in perfect condition.
- Driver Vetting: All drivers undergo background checks and are required to have a valid driving license and insurance.
- Real‑Time Tracking: You can track your order in real‑time and see the driver’s location on a map, so you know exactly when to expect your food.
- Contactless Delivery: We offer contactless delivery options to minimise physical contact between drivers and customers. You can leave special instructions for drop‑off locations.
- Secure Packaging: Vendors use tamper‑evident packaging to ensure your food is not opened or contaminated during transit.
- Safe Driving Practices: Drivers are required to follow traffic regulations and drive responsibly at all times.
3. Payment Security
We use industry‑leading security measures to protect your financial information and ensure safe transactions.
- Encryption: All payment data is encrypted using TLS/SSL during transmission. Sensitive information is never stored in plain text.
- PCI DSS Compliance: Our payment processing partners (M‑Pesa, Stripe, PayPal) are fully PCI DSS compliant, ensuring the highest standards for handling card data.
- Tokenization: Where possible, we use tokenization to replace sensitive card details with a secure token.
- Fraud Monitoring: We employ automated fraud detection systems to identify and block suspicious transactions.
- Secure Authentication: We support two‑factor authentication (2FA) to add an extra layer of security to your account.
4. Data Privacy and Protection
Your personal data is protected in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable data protection laws.
- Data Minimisation: We collect only the data necessary to provide our services.
- Access Controls: Only authorised personnel have access to personal data, and only on a need‑to‑know basis.
- Encryption at Rest: Sensitive data (e.g., payment credentials, API keys) is encrypted using AES‑256.
- Regular Audits: We conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments to identify and address risks.
- Data Retention: We retain data only as long as required by law or for legitimate business purposes, and we securely delete it thereafter.
5. Platform Security
We have implemented robust security measures to protect the platform against cyber threats and unauthorized access.
- Secure Authentication: We enforce strong password policies and support 2FA. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt (cost factor 12).
- CSRF Protection: All state‑changing requests are protected against Cross‑Site Request Forgery (CSRF) attacks.
- XSS Prevention: All user inputs are sanitized and escaped to prevent Cross‑Site Scripting (XSS).
- SQL Injection: All database queries use prepared statements to prevent SQL injection attacks.
- Rate Limiting: We enforce rate limits on sensitive endpoints (e.g., login, password reset, OTP) to prevent brute‑force attacks.
- Security Headers: We implement security headers (CSP, HSTS, X‑Frame‑Options, etc.) to further protect against common web vulnerabilities.
6. Incident Response
We have a dedicated incident response team to handle any security or safety incidents that may occur. In the event of a data breach or safety issue, we will:
- Contain and investigate the incident promptly.
- Notify affected users and relevant authorities as required by law.
- Take corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Provide transparent communication throughout the process.
7. Your Role in Safety
You also play a key role in ensuring your own safety while using the platform. We encourage you to:
- Use strong, unique passwords and enable 2FA on your account.
- Keep your contact information up to date.
- Report any suspicious activity, security incidents, or safety concerns immediately to support@unibitesdelivery.co.ke.
- Verify your order and delivery details upon receipt.
- Provide clear delivery instructions to help drivers find you safely.
Together, we can create a safe and enjoyable campus food delivery experience.
